Education in Vellore

Vellore is considered one of the oldest cities in South with a population of 906,745 (2001 census). It lies on the banks of the Palar River on the site of Vellore Fort. The city is in between Chennai (145 km) and Bangalore (215 km) and the Temple towns of Thiruvannamalai and Tirupati. The city has colleges, ancient temples and one of the best hospitals in India, Christian medical College and hospital.

Vellore is a major transit point for travellers. With thousands and thousands of patients coming to Christian medical college for treatment every year, it is always a hub for medical tourism. Other than that, many beautiful tourist spots including the Vellore Fort, Clock Tower, Jalakanteshwara Temple, St.Johns Church, Amirthi Zoological Park, ASI Mosque, etc. attracts visitors every year.

Temperature in Vellore ranges from as low as 10°C in the winter months of December–February to even 43°C in the summer months of April–June. It is essentially a dry climate, rainy and humid only at the times of the two monsoons: June–August and October–December.

Pongal is one of the most important festivals in Vellore. Moreover, festivals like Diwali, Eid, Christmas, etc. are also celebrated with great enthusiasm.

Educational Scenario of Vellore

Vellore is considered to have many leading institutes of higher education. Gradually it has become the centre of attraction for the admission seekers, for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level courses. With excellent faculty and administration, the city colleges generate a learning ambiance for the aspirants all across the country.
Among the city's many other institutions of higher learning are the Christian Medical College, Tamil Nadu Open University Study Centre, etc. The city can also boost of some excellent schools like Sri Narayani Vidyalaya, Abdul Wahib T English School, Bangi Aayath Basha Sahib School, etc.
