Trichy is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, with a population of 752,066 in the metropolitan area and the urban agglomeration had a population of 866,354s (2001 census) It serves as the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirapalli District and is the fourth largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu and the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. The city is of great antiquity and has been ruled by the Early Cholas, Early Pandyas, Pallavas, Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Later Pandyas, Delhi Sultanate, Ma'bar Sultanate, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayak Dynasty, the Carnatic state and the British at different times.

Trichy has a number of historical monuments, the Rockfort and Thiruvanaikaval being the most prominent among them. Other than that, it has many other tourist spots like Viralimalai Sanctuary, Kudumianmalai, Sri Ranganathaswami Temple, etc. which attracts thousands and thousands of visitors every year.

Trichy always witnesses a mix climate. During the summer (March to May), it is extremely hot and dry at daytime. However, the evenings are rendered cool by cold winds that blow from the south-east. Trichy is quite sultry during September and October but cool and pleasant from November to February.

Festivals like Jallikattu, Float Festivals, Samayapuram Mariyamman Festival, Allur Jalla Thirthavizha, Vaikunta ekadasi festival, etc. are celebrated with great enthusiasm every year. Moreover, it attracts thousands of visitors all over the world.
