Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu with a population of 930,882 (2001 census) in Municipal Corporation limits and 1,461,139 for the urban agglomeration. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the Coimbatore district and is a major textile and engineering hub of South India. It is referred to as "the Manchester of South India" due to the presence of a flourishing textile industry. It is a heavily industrialized city with textile factories, engineering firms, automobile parts manufacturers, health care facilities and technical educational institutions.

With many beautiful tourist spots including Perur Temple, Marudhamalai Temple, V O C Park, Vaideki Water Falls, Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Thirumoorthy Temple, etc. attracts thousands and thousands of visitors every year.

Coimbatore always witnesses a pleasant and salubrious climate. The maximum and minimum temperatures during summer and winter vary between 35°C to 18°C. Highest temperature ever recorded is 41 °C and lowest is 12 °C.

Koniamman Car Festival in Koniamman temple in Coimbatore is an important event every year. Koniamman car festival is celebrated every year on 1st March. Other than this, festivals like Thaipoosam, Panguni Uthiram, Pongal and Diwali are also celebrated with great enthusiasm.
